Move Smart Classes

Have you ever noticed that when you take an exercise class the teacher only tells you what to do? What if you’ve recently had an injury, an orthopedic procedure, or maybe you just had a baby, and the movement you’re doing doesn’t feel right? Or maybe the movement is two or three levels above where you are—and you have no idea how to bridge that gap. Maybe you’re caught in the fear loop; being afraid to move outside your comfort zone, but then never completely recovering to full functionality, let alone increasing your level of health and fitness!

Move Smart is about learning how to move well. The how is much more important than the what when it comes to moving beyond limitations. So don’t be defined by your setbacks—learn the skills to recover fully, move beyond the pain, and restriction safely so that you can return to your life with confidence and freedom.

How do Move Smart Classes fit into The Smart Body Way?

Smart Pilates—Move

Learn how movement can support the optimal functioning of the body. We will explore how breath supports movement, and therefore posture. Core support is defined, so we not only become better at Pilates, we become better at moving through life. While some might qualify this class as more therapeutic, functional movements (standing, sitting, “bending-over”, walking, squatting, pushing, reaching, and pulling) are added to the classical Pilates repertoire so that what we learn in class is easily applicable to the movements and sensations we create outside the studio. This class is perfect for those who are challenged by chronic pain, injuries, illness, conditions like Arthritis, joint replacement, childbirth, or having to sit at a desk all day! You will leave class feeling invigorated, energized, and easy in your body and mind.

Osteo-Pilates

Osteo-Pilates is a modified Pilates class designed to accommodate anyone with low bone density. Learn how to age powerfully and gracefully while building bone and improving posture, balance, strength, and flexibility.

Did you know that one out of every two women over the age of 50 has a low bone density (either Osteopenia or Osteoporosis)? With adults over the age of 60 representing the fastest growing population segment in the U.S., everyone should understand how the risks and needs of our aging bodies change over time. For those in this group, average abdominal exercises might be completely undermining your health and longevity!

MOTR—Move

This class is a wonderful progression from Smart Body Pilates-Heal! All the same principles, all familiar movement- yet the MOTR® has a way of exposing our body’s “shadow-areas”, or areas where we can improve our brain-to-body and body-to-brain connections. (P.S. These connections are a prerequisite to building better health and fitness!).
